Success: A Journey Not a Destination
Success is a positive
word in our world today. Everyone is seeking success,
but what does success really mean to you? In order to
understand success, one must first understand the nature
of human beings. I believe that you would agree with me
that humans are in their very nature a trichotomy or a
tripartite being, that is, man is made up of three
parts: Spirit, Soul (the mind, emotions, and will) and
Body. To achieve Success that is whole-life fulfillment,
each of this area; spirit, soul, and body must receive
exceptional attention in order to bring a sense of
balance to your life and achieve true success.
In our
world, success is often defined in terms of how much you
have financially, your achievement, fame, recognition,
material possessions, and wealth. Yet, how you define
success is important in shaping your life. Success must
mean that your vision, goals and purpose in life are
fulfilled. But personal fulfillment depends on you
fulfilling the purpose and destiny of God on your life.
It means fulfilling creation mandate: “Fill the earth
and subdue it”.
Confidence and faith in your ability are essential to
achieving success. Everybody wants to achieve some
degree of success, either in business, career, finance,
health, family or relationship and the list goes on. To
be successful, you must decide EXACTLY what your goal or
vision is and then lay out the steps by which you intend
to attain it.
I’d love to synthesize all of the definition that I have
researched from great minds into one simple
understandable thought and that is “Find your definite
purpose which is God’s intent for your life and make a
difference in whatever measure and capacity”.
Keys to Success
Develop Definite Purpose:
A
definite
purpose driven life, implies living and leading a life
of purpose as well as giving significance to life.
Developing a definite purpose creates and enable you
simplify life and help you to concentrate your abilities
and potential in living out your original intent.
Positive
Mental Attitude:
According to
the Merriam Webster dictionary, the word: “attitude”
means, “an internal position or feeling with regard to
something else.” Your attitude therefore, is your inward
disposition toward other things, such as: people,
circumstances or situations. In essence, it is not the
people, or circumstances that ultimately determine your
final outcome or success. It is your inner disposition
(attitude). A positive mental attitude gives you the
power and confidence to approach any situation or
circumstance, with the expectation that you will
ultimately, achieve your desired goal or outcome as you
take consistent action, relevant to your desired outcome
and it determines your chances for success in anything
you do.
Association:
Most of us have heard the saying: “Birds of the same
feather flock together.” Well, this saying holds true,
not only for birds, but also for successful people and
unsuccessful people respectively. Never underestimate
the power of influence. Indeed, the influence of those
around you is so powerful that so often you do not even
realize that you are being strongly affected because
influence generally, develops over an extended period of
time.
Create a
Vision:
Every journey begins with a vision. The Hebrew word for
Vision is "Châzôwn", and it means: “to have a
mental sight, a dream, a revelation or divine
communication”. Therefore, a vision is a clear mental
image, a dream, a divine guidance or a revelation of
what God has created you for and it is based on your
accurate understanding of your definite purpose and the
grace of God. It is imperative to know and understand
the direction of your life, in order to keep focus on
the objectives and to have courage in life, because
where there is no vision the people have nothing to live
for. Vision gives and determines direction and it
reveals your definite purpose for existence.
Passion:
Passion is the obsessive desire backed up with the
knowledge of your definite purpose that sees to the
successful accomplishment of your definite purpose no
matter the cost. Therefore, understanding your purpose
will create hunger and desire (passion) which will
stimulate and help you to maintain courage and tenacity
for the purpose and to see to its successful
accomplishment. Hence, when you define your definite
purpose, it produces passion with an accompanying
determination to see to its fulfillment.
A Mastermind
Alliance:
One incredible means to support you staying focus on
your quest for a life of success is to form a mastermind
group. Napoleon Hill describes Mastermind as follows:
“the coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit
of harmony, between two or more people, for the
attainment of a definite purpose.” In other words, a
mastermind group is a group of individuals with whom you
discuss all your challenges and together seek solutions
to your problems and develop how best to optimize your
opportunities.
Focus on
specific things you want:
The Oxford
Advance Learner's Dictionary defines
focus as follows:
“To give attention, effort, to one particular subject,
situation or person rather than another; To adapt or be
adjusted so that things can be seen clearly; to adjust
something so that you can see things clearly;
Technically, to aim rays of light onto a particular
point using a LENS; and Point at which an object must be
situated so that a well defined image of it may be
produced. It is important to identify and focus on your
key result areas. This is a dynamic aspect that
successful people have incorporated into their lives in
order to achieve extraordinary results in their personal
and professional lives. In any endeavor, it is your
ability to focus on priorities which determines your
success.
Take
Action:
If action is not taken the consequences are unbearable.
What you are going to bring into your life, what success
you will reach, is all being decided by the action you
are taking right now. It is the smallest bit of action
that separates the high achievers from everyone else. It
is one thing to have valuable how-to knowledge and
information, but that information and knowledge will be
unproductive by itself unless acted upon.
The last but not the
least is a commitment to
personal growth and
development. This is a vital key element to anyone that
desire lasting success in any aspect of life.
