Creating a
Winning Attitude
According to the Merriam Webster
dictionary, the word: attitude means an internal
position or feeling with regard to something else.
Other words often used as synonyms are: disposition,
feeling, mood, opinion, sentiment, temper, tone,
perspective, frame of mind, outlook, view, or morale.
Airplane pilots often use attitude to describe their
horizontal relationship with the runway when they land.
It is said that if the plane's attitude is not properly
aligned, it will make contact with the ground at the
wrong angle and that will cause the plane to crash.
Your attitude
therefore, is your inward disposition toward other
things, such as: people, circumstances or situations. In
essence, it is not the people, or circumstance that
ultimately determine your final outcome, it is your
inner disposition (attitude) that describes your
relationship with the external things.
A winning attitude is a positive attitude
that gives you the power and confidence to approach any
situation or circumstance, with the expectation that you
will ultimately, achieve your desired goal or outcome as
you take consistent action, relevant to your desired
outcome. A winning attitude determines your
chances for success in anything you do.
All that you hear is what you should and can do.
However, even if you do everything the right way
skillfully, your chances of succeeding are very low if
your attitude is wrong. It is imperative to understand
that your thoughts and attitudes form your
actions which ultimately determine your final outcome.
Therefore, your inner disposition should be, that you
believe in what you are doing, believe in what you want,
believe that you can succeed and you will. It is this
kind of attitude that will take you to the next level.
"What is an attitude? It is the
advance man of our true selves; Its roots are inward
but its fruit is outward; It is our best friend or our
worst enemy; It is more honest and more consistent than
our words; It is an outward look based on past
experiences; It is a thing which draws people to us or
repels them. It is never content until it is expressed;
It is the librarian of our past. It is the speaker of
our present; It is the prophet of our future."
John
C. Maxwell
The
difference between winners and whiners is the attitude
they possess and the way they respond to their problems.
Winners, see problems as challenges and opportunities
that will take them to the next level of life, while
whiners and losers, see the problems as threats which
undermine their innate potential to be, to have and to
do more.
Your positive attitude in any given circumstance or
situation, indicates your performance and final outcome
in life. To change your performance and outcome in life,
you must change your attitude which is your inner
disposition.
John Maxwell defines attitude as: the inward feeling
expressed by behavior. In other words, your outward
expression usually reflects your inward feelings or
dispositions. Since your external behavior or body
language usually is the expression of your inner
disposition (attitude), care must be taken as to what
you exude, either negative or positive disposition
because it can be contagious and it will affect your
ultimate result. I am sure that you have been around
someone, who expressed either a positive or a negative
attitude toward someone else, something or circumstances
which affected your sense of judgment, which on
the contrary, built your negative attitude.
To be a resounding success in life,
developing a winning attitude cannot be overemphasized.
You must surround yourself with people who have a
winning attitude and stay away from the naysayer.
Keys to
creating a winning attitude
The Bible
lets us understand that "As a man thinks so is he". In
other words you are a summation of your thoughts. As you
take charge over your thoughts and sabotage the negative
thoughts that tries to infiltrate your mind and enhance
the positive thoughts that are congruent to your desired
end you will develop a winning attitude in the final
analysis as you tend to get what you think about most of
the time this is crucial to your success. Hence be
careful as to what thoughts you allow go undetected.
Your
overall attitude is determined by your expectations.
Hence changing the expectations that are not congruent
with your desired attitude will immensely produce a
wining attitude. If you expect things to go well you ll
generally have a positive and a winning attitude. If you
believe that wonderful and positive things will happen
to you during the day, you have a positive and
optimistic attitude.
It is important for us to have and
maintain the proper perspective of things so as to
maintain a positive attitude in all our endeavors and
walk with God. Most people (MP) start out with great
enthusiasm, but often get discouraged and in some cases
become indifferent or lethargic just because of
inaccurate perspective of the situation that oftentimes
leads to a negative attitude. It is therefore imperative
to have the proper perspectives
in the different areas of your life
that will help you to create and maintain
a winning attitude.
The Bible teaches
that evil communication corrupts good manners, and it
has been said that your association determines your
destination. With that said, it is important that
you surround and associate yourself
with people who have a winning attitude and stay from
the naysayer.
